Tyler Patterson was the older of two sons of Julie Patterson and Dave Patterson. His younger brother is Cameron. His paternal grandmother is JoAnne while his maternal grandparents are Stan and Deborah Albright. Tyler was born in January 1996.^PUTP3

When Julie suggested "Tyler" as a name, that Scott Tyler was "about as good a friend as he'd had in school" made it easy for Dave to accept.^PUTP4
