Lydia Sorensen was a farmwife in Arvada Center. She was married to Chet and they had two boys, sons Tom and Ken.

When Ken started dating Judy Nivens, she is quickly supportive of her efforts to become independant of her mother. Judy found her easy to talk to.^TNG5 Living on the farm meant Lydia needed to be able to join in on any work. It was Lydia who first suggested that Judy might be able to drive a tractor.^TNG5 It was also Lydia that taught Judy her way around a kitchen^TNG13 and how to preserve food.^TNG18

Lydia took the occasional turn babysitting for Lori Watson "It almost makes me feel like I'm a grandmother.".^TNG13 Judy and Ken eventually make her a grandmother with four children by 2000 when her health starts to be a concern.^FtS10
