Debbie Elkstalker is a full-blood Indian (Shakahatchie) and tribal shaman. She spent time as a waitress at the Spearfish Lake Cafe, living with her boyfriend Kenny and trying to get some college credit, when she was recruited by Mike McMahon to apply for a job at the Record-Herald. Although there is the Three Pines reservation nearby, she lives in the mobile home park.

Debbie is employed as the Assistant Ad Manager at the Spearfish Lake Record-Herald at the time of Andromeda Chained. She is specifically thanked by Wendy Carter for her help in Wendy's writing at the end of that book. She is still employed at the newspaper during Blue Beauty, although her position is not mentioned.

Debbie is described as "chubby but with a pretty, exotic face, a gift of gab and a wry sense of humor." Andromeda Chained Chapter 1

Debbie is a major character in Square One, and at the end marries Danny Evachevski and together have two children.
