Tom is Ken Sorensen's elder brother, and it is intended that He should take over the family farm. Tom is killed in a road accident in the winter 1984/5 (The Next Generation Chapter 12). This forces Ken and Judy to give up their degrees to go back to work the farm.
Carolyn
Tom married Carolyn before the start of The Next Generation. She is a city girl, who works as a Pharmacist, and was described as "heavy-set, with dark hair". She dislikes farm life, but still sues for a share of the farm after Chet's death. Ken believes that Tom made a big mistake in marrying her.
