Wells, Mary

Dave and Mary Wells are a married couple and co-Trip Leaders with Canyon Tours.

Mary is described as "sort of funny looking, medium height, with long reddish-brown hair done up in braids, and big round glasses."^CF15 She is the Senior Boatman with Canyon Tours and has been since Louise Buck died.

Dave is described as "several inches taller than his wife, solidly built, with long, dark hair and a face that showed signs of a lifelong battle with acne. " He has only slightly less experience than Mary.

Both are fully qualified as Trip Leaders, but run together and split the responsibilities. With Dave's quieter natureAl Buck only has had them run separate trips once, after an emergency and both complained enough that Al doesn't plan to do it again. The couple expect to continue leading trips through the Grand Canyon for the long term.

Despite her seniority, there were times when she took orders from Crystal Chladek instead of going to Al, accepting that the owner's daughter could take the responsibility, such as having Ben and Joy Russell switch trips^CF19 or when a customer had to be helicoptered out and was threatening a lawsuit.^CF20
