Larry McDermott was a Mechanical Engineering professor at Georgia Tech. He taught both Jon Chladek and Tanisha Blythe Stress Analysis at 8am, 3 days a week, for the Spring 1997 semester. He helps them get a paid summer internship with Lambdatron, much as he had with a previous student of his, Jim Geletzke. The professor had realized Griz was more than just an athlete and recruited him.^AT07

Dr. McDermott was described as "balding". Among students he had a "reputation as a hard-nosed bastard" but fair.
