Shovelhead is the nickname of Dr. Gene Metarie, the leading physician in Spearfish Lake. He is a large burly man, a full beard, long brown ponytail, and rides a Harley. He is married to Lex. He is an excellent violinist, and plays with Jenny Easton's Boreal String Band.
