Catalina tells Roger that she was given that name because, as she told Roger Bishop when they first met, she was conceived in the back seat of my granddad's '58 Pontiac. When he saw the tasteful tattoo of a cattail on her backside, he gave her the nickname of Cattail.
In 2005, when the story Cattail begins and she meets Roger, she would probably be in her mid-40's. She has been all over, mostly Peace Corps, but also worked as a Club Med hostess, showgirl, truck driver, assistant resort manager, and teaching English as a second language at community colleges. When they meet, they are both working on Hurricane Katrina Cleanup, helping to build a house for Habitat for Humanity in Gulfport, Mississipi. Roger thought she was solid, but not overweight. Her butt had avoided that spread that middle-aged women often develop; she had a decent sized chest, not too small, and not too big.CAT2
