What is spearfishlaketaleswiki.com all about?

Welcome to the wiki for fans of Wes Boyd's Spearfish Lake Tales.

Many fans have wished for a way to look up information about the characters, stories and places (real and fictional) in the stories. Since we all want Wes to concentrate on his writing this is a way for us as fans to provide this information. Please remember that Spearfish Lake and all it contains belongs to Wes.

If you have just begun reading Spearfish Lake Tales, you might be wondering what order to read them in. Most people find it fun to read them in the order they were published rather than trying to force them into a neat chronological order. On Wes' home page, Spearfish Lake Tales, the latest tale being published is listed first, so go down to the bottom and start with the first one published, Rocinante .

Warning Warning!!!!!!! there will be spoilers on these pages. We are all here for the enjoyment so do not blame others if your curiosity and lack of control lead to a story outcome being spoiled.

That being said dive in and have fun.

With the end of The Girl in the Mirror to be posted on Friday, March 11, 2001, a new story, Cattail, by Wes Boyd will start next Monday, March 14, 2011. As per Wes_Boyd's_Bibliography, it is an independent story, not part of any current series.

Roger Bishop found early retirement from a factory to be lonely and boring, especially since he's a widower. With nothing better to do, he gets the idea of going south to help with the cleanup after Hurricane Katrina. Down amid the rubble, he meets a lifelong free spirit, Catalina Smith, who's there on the same mission, so being lonely is no longer a problem. What's more, it seems that Catalina has some problems of her own, and all of a sudden he really doesn't have to worry about being bored!

Wes Boyd posted chapter 22 of The Girl in the Mirror on March 7, 2011.

Class Reunion: People have changed by the time of the Bradford High School Class of 1988 tenth reunion, some more than others. The star athlete has become a sportscaster; the class president is now manager of a convenience store; her best friend, a peppy cheerleader, has been through a messy divorce. The happy-go-lucky party girl now has a business card that reads "Medieval Wandering Minstrel." The class valedictorian is now a multimillionaire who flies her own Learjet -- and works part-time as a prostitute. And, the kid who was universally picked on and beaten up has changed more than anyone could have possibly dreamed . . .

Posting schedule is Mon-Wed-Fri. Ok, if you are desperate, check the night before sometime after 9:00 Eastern Time (Ok,ok - so it might be not until after 10 pm Eastern Time. Still it is the night before the official posting date.)

One phone call changed her life! Outdoor girl Scooter Whitsell has been reduced to watching a counter, instead of being out on the trails and rivers she loves so well. Then she gets a phone call from an old hiking buddy -- and she’s on her way to her absolute dream job: a raft guide in the Grand Canyon! It isn’t an easy job, but Scooter was never a girl that asked for things to be easy. She has to put aside normal things to make a life in the Grand Canyon -- but she wouldn’t have it any other way!

The three postings during the week beginning August 16, 2010 were parts of his original essay, Big Guy in the Grand Canyon, about his trip down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. It is online at Wes' site at http://www.spearfishlaketales.com/shorts/gc/gc.htm .

Hat Trick is posted on Wes' site at http://www.spearfishlaketales.com/15ht/ht.htm . The final chapter of Hat Trick, Chapter 30 was posted on August 13, 2010.

One afternoon Dayna Berkshire decided to practice her guitar at the mall -- then people started throwing money in her gig bag! An epiphany that changed her life struck her: "This beats hell out of work!" It takes a while to learn the tricks, but Dayna and her friend Sandy set out to explore the free-wheeling life of being street musicians, earning their money on street corners, in shows, at renaissance faires, or wherever they can, living the lives they choose to lead. But into each life some rain must fall, and it tests just how bad Dayna wants to lead the life she's chosen.

Wes posted the final chapter of Square One. Chapter 51 of Square One June 4, 2010. As per Wes Boyd's Bibliography, Square One is the ninth book in the Spearfish Lake series.

After Danny Evachevski found his wife cheating on him, he had no choice but to get a divorce, go repair ties with his family and friends and start over. It wouldn't break his heart to leave a life and a job he detested, either. But Danny's soul has been severely wounded by the experience. He finds a most unusual place to heal while he's waiting for his divorce to go through, then heads back to his home in Spearfish Lake. It isn't easy to go back home -- things have changed, and changed a lot in the twelve years he's been gone. In spite of family and friends, he's lonely and often seems at loose ends while he watches people that have made something of their lives. Then, quite unexpectedly, things change. Maybe there's hope for him after all!

The complete archive of Square One is available at Square One.

Reading

Like most of the people who look at this wiki, you probably stumbled into reading one of Wes' tales somewhere in the middle of a story, either on his site or one of the ones he posts on. Now that you are hooked, having gone back and read (or like many of his readers, reread) a tale or two, you might ask what do I read next?

For most readers the best way to cover all the tales is from the beginning; not chronological beginning, but publication order. On his home page, spearfishlaketaleswiki.com, the tales are listed in reverse chronological order! So scroll on down, and start with Rocinante. He has left a hint as to the publication order - look for the number that is part of the link for each story.

Check out Wes_Boyd's_Bibliography for information on each series and hints about what will be next.

Also useful is the list of this wiki's pages for each story. See the link Books and Short Stories which is in the navigation sidebar on the left side of every page.
