Pat Varner worked at the Spearfish Lake Record-Herald as the junior reporter, succeeding Andy Bairnsfether. He handled all of the sports news except for football, which was a big enough deal in Spearfish Lake that Mike McMahon preferred to handle that. Pat had been an English Lit major, with drama and journalism minors.
Pat attended the 1987 West Turtle Lake Club Halloween party dressed as Shakespeare, complete with "beard, bald head, ruffled collar, baggy shorts and tights."BAR88
