Jerry (no last name as of River Rat 46) started as a swamper with Canyon Tours in 1997, and continued as a boatman after graduating from college in 1999. On a trip that included Randy Clark and Crystal Chladek he had a serious accident rockclimbing; Randy had just completed EMT training and his actions saved Jerry's life.
In later books, he is described as a "bit of a cowboy".
